First Timer Meeting

First Timer's Meeting

The first timer's meeting usually lasts about 45 - 60 minutes.  During this meeting we will discuss a number of topics with the new students.  The objectives of this meeting can be summarized as follows.

  1. Provide an orientation session to students that are new to Driving Event
  2. Ensure that all new students understand the purpose of a driving event
  3. Provide students with a good understanding of the timing of the activities that will occur throughout the driving event
  4. Ensure that all students are aware of items that are considered dangerous and risky during a track event

During the meeting, we'll ask the following general questions to the students.

  1. How many have attended an event before?
  2. What do the students want to get out of the event

We talk about the objectives of the event and we make it clear that the objectives of the event are to

  1. Develop and improve driving skills
  2. Have fun
  3. Stay safe
  4. Appreciate our Audis

As you might imagine, if this is your first driving event, there is a great deal that you do not yet know and because you're about to spend the next couple of days on a racetrack, you may find that...

  1. You’re nervous
  2. You're not sure of what’s going to happen and when
  3. You're concerned about your car, your beautiful car…

Don't worry, all of these feelings are quite normal, and we'll spend some time talking about them in more detail during the meeting.

As mentioned earlier, all Audi Club Driving Events follow a pretty strict protocol.  This protocol is very similar to that of the other clubs that operate the same kind of events at racetracks accross America.  The protocol is very structured, and it ensures that for each event, every beginner student (A and B students) must attend classroom sessions, and must have an instructor in the car with them at all times.  For novice students (A students) we say that the protocol ensures the following.

  1. That the A drivers get classroom time before track time
  2. That the A drivers complete exercises before track time
  3. That the A drivers are given as controlled an environment as possible
