Come join us and be a part of the Legends of the Autobahn™ auto show on August 15, 2014. The Golden Gate Chapter is organizing Audi’s participation at Legends of the Autobahn™ car show, and Audi Club West Coast Meet. The Legend of the Autobahn™ car show has grown from a BMW picnic to become one of the most popular Club events of the Monterey Classic Car week. Last year we enjoyed viewing over 500 different German cars which included several special factory displays. Most of the cars in attendance come from the members of the local (and national) Audi, BMW, and Mercedes Benz club chapters. This year, we are also inviting other German car marques (e.g. Porsche, VW, Opel, Bitter, etc.) to join us as well. In addition, we are pleased to announce a venue change to the beautiful Nicklaus Club at Monterey, formerly Pasadera Country Club, 100 Pasadera Drive, Monterey, California, near the famed Laguna Seca racetrack. This is a beautiful facility that suggests a location in Italy. Audi owners will have the opportunity to display their technically superior cars amongst the other great German marques on the greens and fairways of this beautiful private golf club. As anyone with even a semblance of exotic synthetic oils in their veins can imagine, there will be many interesting and significant cars to enjoy viewing as well as the opportunity to talk with their owners. Please make plans to join us at this great gathering and extremely fun event.
There are two ways to display your car, the general mixed marque corral, where all German cars will be displayed together, and the special “Judged Car” Audi display area, where all Audis will park together. We don’t want to call it a Concours since most of the cars are driven (some with great enthusiasm) on a daily basis.
General Car Corral registration is $40. The “Judged Car” registration is $75. We will award “Judged Car” trophies three deep. Trophies will be awarded in the following four classes:
*We reserve the right to move cars into different classes or reorganize the classes slightly if there are not enough cars to fill a class. You will be notified of any changes.
We will also award a special trophy to the Best of Show Audi by popular vote of Audi participants.
Registration closes for all cars on August 9th however, we way have to close registration early if the event reaches the maximum allowed number of cars for the field. The August 15th event is free for spectators, and there is ample on-sight parking available. If you are coming from outside the area and could not bring your Audi, please come anyway to enjoy the friendly atmosphere of this fun family friendly event.
There will be food, beverages, and auto regalia available in a festival like atmosphere. As in all Golden Gate chapter events all entered cars will receive some special Audi Club SWAG.
The special Legends of the Autobahn™ golf shirts, this year in white, will be available for pre-order at $40 each for small, through XL, and $45 for 2XL and above.
There are several meal options available when purchased in advance.
A breakfast buffet is $14.00, which includes choices of Muffins, Bagels, and Pastry; Yogurt, Fruit, Juice, coffee and tea.
There are two lunch options.
The lunch buffet is $29.75, which includes choices Roast Beef & Turkey roll-ups, or Hamburger, Cole Slaw, Chips, Brownies and Cookies, plus a soft drink.
The Legends VIP Luncheon is a sit-down affair available in the indulgent clubhouse for $49.75. The menu choices are Grilled Chicken Kebobs, and Roasted Vegetables, Tri-tip, Wild Rice Salad, Mediterranean Salad of Marinated Cucumbers, Brownies, and/or Fruit Tarts, Soft Drink.
Participants can also choose to bring a picnic lunch, as choices for a la Carte food at the event may be limited.
We are also looking and asking for volunteers to participate as judges, and as general assistants. Volunteers will be compensated with the buffet breakfast for their dedication, talents, and efforts.
There are many other things to see at the event. Numerous product displays, special manufacturer displays, and our Audi Club tent staffed to impart general club information on upcoming events and membership. We also expect to have an adult beverage tent as in prior years. More details will be vailable later.
Once again, we are working with Audi of America to bring a set of special vehicles for our Club’s display and for all to enjoy. This year we will have a race prepared RS6 that was the 2001 and 2002 GT class winner of the World Challenge Series with Michael Galati behind the wheel. We are also working on getting a current racing Audi for display. There should be several rare Audis from local collections. These are all fantastic cars to see in-person. When we get confirmations, we will post them on our website. Of course, most of the cars at the show will be the personal cars we all know and love; and we get to share them on this special day. We are encouraging all west coast Audi owners to come, join us in the prideful display of their cars, while enjoying the camaraderie of other Audi owners on the grass in this all day, family friendly, car show and picnic-like event. To find out more, please visit the combined marque main event website http://www.legendsoftheautobahn.org/. Continue to the bottom and click on register if you want to register your Audi and attend.
The events schedule is as follows:
6:30 AM Registration opens for pre-registered “Judged Cars”.
9:00 AM - 12:00 PM Judging / Special Presentations / Guest
4:00 PM Event ends and all cars off the field
In addition to the Legends of the Autobahn™ event, there are many things to see and do in the area during the “Pebble Beach Weekend”. There are other events throughout the weekend. If there is interest, one can go to any of the many different events taking place during the weekend. Go to the Pebble Beach Concours website calendar at http://www.pebblebeachconcours.net/pages/3007 to obtain links to more information on the different events over the week. If there is interest to attend the Monterey Motorsports Reunion historic car races on August 16 and 17, we will have a limited number of tickets available for one of the German car VIP tents. Watch our website for more details as they become available. The best additional event of the weekend is the famous Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance on Sunday, August 17th. This year’s Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance will honor the Maserati Centennial, Ruxton, Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa, Fernandez et Darrin Coachwork, Steam Cars, Rolls-Royce Phantom IV and Phantom V, Tatra, and Eastern European Motorcycles.
We encourage everyone to sample the large variety of auto related events all over the Monterey Peninsula. It is common to see cars rarely seen in magazines driving though the streets of Monterey, or parked on Carmel’s Ocean Avenue. People come from all over the world to participate, see and be seen, at the plethora of local events. They come to take in the thick atmosphere of auto exotica that permeates the area streets. It all culminates at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance on Sunday. We encourage all who wish to be a part of this extraordinary experience to get their tickets and room reservations early. If you would like to get more information about all events during Pebble Beach weekend visit the Pebble Beach Concours website at http://www.pebblebeachconcours.net. We hope you will be able to join us for the fun.
